Tom Asacker posted an article on his blog A Clear Eye, “Unlocking Hearts and Minds in Today’s Idea Economy”, on December 9, 2009 entitled, Repositioning During a Slowdown, with key points focusing on repositioning, communication and branding.  The article is very well-considered and worthwhile for your study.  It can be found at

I just reviewed my comment in response to his article, and since it predates the initiation of RenaissanceRules, I believe it deserves to be shared here:

“Repositioning assumes one knows where you are, how you got there, what values/skill set/resources you can constructively use, and a rightful course for the repositioning.

Another way of looking at Repositioning may be a 3-step action plan:

  1. Recapitulate: What is the basis for your beliefs, skill set, work product? Have you strayed from core values?  What is a “rightful course” for you based upon that, upon experience in life, upon today’s reality?
  2. Reformation: Identify past error, based upon Recapitulation, in order to return to a rightful course.
  3. Renaissance: Move out, armed with current knowledge, learned skills, core values, on that rightful course. They “inform” navigation.

Head on over to Tom’s site at for a dose of great thinking regarding brands, leadership, and life in general!

And, of course, check out the other Renaissance-related articles at RenaissanceRules !!
